LOOP LIGHTING
This is the most commonly used lighting pattern within portrait photography as it suits most people. The name derives from the 'loop shaped' shadow that develops on the side of the models nose. An important thing to consider when using loop lighting is that the shadow on the lower cheek does not overlap with the shadow cast by the nose. |
SPLIT LIGHTING
Used regularly by celebrity portraits photographers, split lighting, as stated by the name, effectively splits the models face by lighting one side and covering the other in shadow. This lighting pattern tends to complement men and can be used to give a wide face a narrower appearance. Split lighting creates quite a dramatic and mysterious effect which can be manipulated by using a reflector or fill light to dampen the harshness of the shadow. |
