Lisa Anne Auerbach
This American artist based primarily out of California has managed to find a unique and creative way of delivering her rather strong and opinionated political views. Auerbach started of primarily focusing on her photographic work however once realising her limited access to a dark room, plus the costs of producing her imagery, she decided to use a new medium with which to develop her work. Knitting. Yes, this determined young artist began knitting with yarn to produce sweaters with integrated text and symbols that portray her political views. Its an ingenuitive way of replacing the age old bumper stickers and political pins displayed and worn by all forms of protestors with an exciting and wearable alternative. In many cases Auerbach adds a touch of dark humour when delivering these rather provocative views which both intrigues and entertains the viewer. by using yarn, she is also able to fuse the texture and shape of the garment with the message she aims to deliver which adds another dimension to the presentation of her message.
None the less, Auerbach does not limit herself to knitting she has also established herself as a publisher of zines.
