This project gave me the opportunity to gain some experience in studio photography. I found it quite challenging learning about different lighting patterns however it definitely made it a lot easier to realize your desired outcome when you have total control over the creative environment. Personally however, I quite like the spontaneity within street or location photography where you have to react to be able to capture a genuine moment. I think it is a lot more exciting therefore I don’t really think I will pursue studio photography very much in the future. The visual communication aspect of this project however was very intriguing. Learning about typography and the principles involved was very rewarding and I plan to continue my research into this field. A standout designer who I discovered was Reid Miles. I found his work to be inspiring as he manipulated type and photography in a variety of highly effective fashions.
When it came to designing my own work, I completed a small studio shoot so that I could have a selection of imagery to choose from. I think that I rushed too much with this shoot and could have taken some more photographs. Another issue I faced was time management. In future I will have to plan my time more efficiently so that I can produce my best work. This is something I should work on during the next project. In the end I was quite happy with my album covers. I thought that the composition was carefully considered and the studio shots complemented the fonts and layouts I selected well. In the next project I want to look more closely at grids and how to create different variations to produce unique layouts.
